Leisure & Business

The smoke-free The Mooring Post Bed & Breakfast provides a sun terrace, a picnic area, and a golf course for guests to enjoy their stay.

“The Mooring Post benefits from its riverside location and adjacency to The Lock Keepers restaurant, a clear advantage. While some rooms offer unique designs and private gardens, reports of inconsistent maintenance temper expectations. The Mooring Post has potential as a family-friendly base for exploring Gloucester and the Forest of Dean, but needs improvements.”

Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
The Mooring Post offers spacious and clean rooms, some featuring jacuzzi baths and Nespresso machines, providing good value for many guests. Its location is convenient for exploring Gloucester Quays, though it's a 40-minute walk, plus it is set near the River Severn and Over Canal Basin, offering pleasant surroundings. There is a pub/bar that serves food, but it closes early. While most find the rooms appealing, a few guests have occasionally noted outdated elements, like cracked bathroom tiles, in some rooms.

wonderful experience, a comfortable stay

double bed leather couch nice breeze
llanthony room offered a double bed similar to mine at home. i liked the leather couch in the room. i could open the window wide receiving a nice breeze from the severn. we enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the pub on the first floor.
we arrived on a sunday night planning to stay two nights. the restaurant and bar were closed on both sunday and monday, i was aware. tea and coffee supplies were not replenished, though i had to buy some.
Service
9/10
the staff was really kind and professional! i appreciated the quick responses and solutions to the problems. their professionalism really stood out during the entire stay.
Dining
9/10
the menu looked like typical pub grub, but the food was freshly cooked. it did not seem pre-prepared, placing it more on the gourmet side. presentation of food was good.
Location

the location reminded me of countryside, though it was near town and a safe neighborhood. the canal and river were easily accessed. bus and taxi services were available from the train terminal.
Facilities

Rooms

the location was good , just a short drive from the main areas.
the room needed some attention , as i noticed chipped paint. the shower curtain rail was loose and looked like it had been repaired poorly before. also , the noise from the nearby road was quite noticeable at night with the windows open.

early check-in on-site parking guinness pint bar closure tea shortage coffee pods
The staff accommodated my early check-in. This service was very useful. There was plenty of on-site parking available. I had a great pint of Guinness in the bar.
The restaurant and bar were not open one night. My tea and coffee supplies were not replenished that night. There were no coffee pods for the machine, just tea bags.

the room had a problem with the water (i think). we were told we could not use the bath . my son also got an electric shock from the water, because they had maintenance issues (unbelievable!). i think we should have received a discount, because the facilities were not as described. i am unsure it was completely safe. breakfast should be included considering the prices charged.
